Fawdon....one mile says this sign near Ingram, Northumbria
Fawdon Manor in Ingram Parish had a colorful history. The manor was first held by Lord Douglas in 1225; buying half the manor from William Bataille. By 1264 the entire manor belonged to Lord Douglas. In 1298 Edward Plantagenet seized the Fawdon back into the king's hands and reseised the manor to the overlord Gilbert de Umfraville. Through a series of legal actions, a dower portion was finally assigned to le Hardi's widow Eleanora of Lovaine. By 1328 Fawdon was reseised to James Lord Douglas only to be forfeited by his brother Sir Archibald Douglas Regent of Scotland in 1333; marking the last time the lands were held by Douglases.
